True Summer

also called Cool Summer

Fully cool, medium in depth, and softened just enough to stay elegant rather than sharp. True Summer is the season most often mistaken for Winter, and the mistake costs a lot.

Silver, white gold, pewter. Yellow gold turns the skin sallow. How your metal is measured.

Wear

  • Cool color at medium depth with a soft edge
  • Navy as the anchor neutral instead of black
  • Monochrome cool blues and roses together

Avoid

  • Black and optic white — the contrast is harsher than your coloring
  • Orange, tomato red, warm gold
  • Anything that reads sunlit

Most mistyping happens between adjacent seasons. These are the two most likely to be confused with True Summer.

True Summer or Light Summer? If cool navy and plum look grounding rather than heavy, you're True Summer. Light Summer is overwhelmed by them.

True Summer or Soft Summer? Hold soft fuchsia to the face. True Summer can carry it. Soft Summer finds it too loud and needs the grayed version.

How True Summer dresses

Cool and medium, with a wardrobe built on soft navy and grayed blues. Optic white and true black are both a step harsher than this coloring wants.

Neutrals to build on

Better than the defaults

Nearly every season has a stronger version of black, white and gray. Swapping these three is the single change that makes a wardrobe look chosen rather than assembled.

True Summer for men

Summer menswear works a step softer than most men expect. Soft navy over ink, pewter over jet, and a shirt that is off-white rather than optic — the contrast comes down, and the face comes forward.

Black and white — soften both ends

Summer coloring is gentler than the black-and-white pairing assumes. Black reads heavier than your face, optic white reads colder, and together they create a contrast you do not have. Charcoal or soft navy against off-white gives the same formality with the contrast dialled to where your coloring actually sits.

Belt, shoes and strap sit in the same frame as your face all day. Matching their temperature to your coloring is the cheapest upgrade in a wardrobe.

Chroma reads your coloring from a photo and drapes any palette color under your chin, so you can judge True Summer against its neighbors on you rather than on a model. Then Style Studio turns your result into real outfits: men’s color analysis covers suits, shirts and leathers, women’s covers the wardrobe, shoes and bags, and suit colors by season names the exact navy, charcoal and gray for this palette.
